The Nutritive Value of Cotton Seed Oil
Cotton seed oil can be divided into 4 kinds; they are pressing cotton seed oil, solvent extraction cotton seed oil, genetically modified organism cotton seed oil and crude cotton seed oil.
There is 35%-45% oil, 39% protein, and 0.2%-2% gossypol in cotton nucleus. The refining cotton seed oil by removing gossypol is healthy and edible. It is orange-yellow or brown. There is a mass of unsaturated fatty acid in cotton seed oil, the fatty acid possess of 21.6%-24.8% palmitic acid, 1.9%-2.4% Stearic acid, 0-0.1% arachidic acid, 18.0%-30.7% Oleic acid, 44.9%-55.0% linoleic acid. The abundant linoleic acid can suppress cholesterol in blood rising effectively, safeguard people’s health. The digestibility of cotton seed oil for human is 98%.
The most important is having crude cotton seed oil will damage spermatogenic cells, lead to orchiatrophy, and infertility. For women, having crude cotton seed oil will lead to irregular menstruation, amenorrhea and metratrophia. Having crude cotton seed oil frequently, will lead to insolation, too. Symptom will be behaved after basking; people will feel weakness or hypohidrosis, skin broil and flushing, flustered and breathe hard, dizziness, numbness of limbs and anorexia.
